Female, 48 / Crohn’s Disease

Case

A female was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 48. Although the patient had a fantastic diet and was physically active as a long distance runner, she started to experience bloating and periods of sharp abdominal pains. 4 months later she noticed severe weight loss, loose stools and extreme fatigue. An ultrasound showed bleeding in the stomach and digestive tract, which was also confirmed through visible blood and mucus in the stool.

Intervention

We worked closely to implement a structured EEN protocol that was hypoallergenic, free from gluten, dairy, soy, egg and tree nuts. During the six-week protocol, we remained in close contact and she was closely monitored for any weight loss or possible side effects.

Results

Her calprotectin (a marker of gastrointestinal inflammation), which was originally 1700, dropped to an incredible 34 just 2 weeks into the protocol. Within 4 weeks, all signs of bloating and pain had completely resolved, energy had returned and she was able to enjoy daily exercise classes. Her sleep had also dramatically improved. While immunosuppressants can be extremely important and essential in some cases, she was able to avoid them throughout her treatment.

The Gastroenterologist was so shocked!! This is coming from the most severe case they had ever seen. The Gastroenterologist said you must know your stuff to have been able to help me get it down so fast. Thank you so much for your help!!
